Smedley’s Engineers are an authorised agent within ROVER and are experts in arranging the following services and support under the Road Vehicle Safety Act (RVSA):
- Road Vehicle Type Approvals (VTAs) to provide commercial quantities of new vehicles to the Australian market
- Single Road Vehicle Import Approvals
- Component Type Approvals (CTAs)
- Second Stage of Manufacture (SSM) approvals
- Addition of vehicles to the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) & NEVDIS
- Certification of Road Friendly Suspension (RFS) under VSB11
Furthermore, Smedley's Engineers are an approved testing facility, authorised to test and certify the following Australian Design Rules (ADRs):
- ADR 83/00 – External Noise
- ADR 35/06 – Commercial Vehicle Brake Systems
- ADR 38/05 – Trailer Brake Systems
- ADR 42/05 – General Safety Requirements
- ADR 62/02 – Mechanical Connections Between Vehicles
- ADR 63/00 – Trailer Designed for Use in Road Trains
- ADR 65/00 – Maximum Road Speed Limiting for Heavy Goods Vehicles and Heavy Omnibuses
Additionally, Smedleys team of engineers are Approved Vehicle Examiners (AVEs) and can arrange for the certification of vehicle modifications in VIC, NSW & QLD including;
- Light vehicle modifications under VSB14
- Heavy vehicle modifications under VSB6
Regarding heavy vehicles in particular, Smedley's Engineers can arrange the following through consultation with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR):
- In-principal support for a particular new vehicle design or concept that does not comply with the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) or heavy vehicle standards.
- Section 87 for in-service modifications which don’t comply with vehicle standards requirements
